Motion Picture Director John Carlos Frey's film "The Gatekeeper" is about to be released in San Diego. He is winner of the International Hispanic Film Festival, San Diego Latino Film Festival, Latin Series ~ Festival of Festivals, Phoenix Prize, Santa Barbara Film Festival

General Information:
The Binational Encounter or Encuentro is an annual conference at which students and educators from across the San Diego/Baja California Norte region present their work and discuss their common concerns as scholars and as future practitioners of communication. Students in art as well as communication departments are welcome to participate. About 500 students and faculty attend Encuentro in most years. Each Encuentro includes:

• Distinguished speakers from both the U.S. and Mexico. Past speakers have included playwright and director Luis Valdez, Mexican journalists Jesus Blancornelas and Miguel Angel Granados Chapa, communication scholars Herbert Schiller, Sut Jhally and Miguel Angel Sanchez de Armas, CBS producer Lowell Bergman, Cuban television producer Georgina Torres and motion picture writer and director Gregory Nava
• Panels at which students and faculty present their work and discuss it with colleagues from both sides of the border
• A screening of student video and film productions
• A party
