Binational Association of Schools of Communication of the Californias

Statement Regarding BINACOM's Participation in the Corto Creativo 07 Film Festival.

The Binational Association brings together Communication educators and students from across the San Diego County/Baja California Norte region. Founded in 1990, the Binational Association was motivated by the belief that communicating across borders will be increasingly important both in our region and in the world as whole.

The primary activity of the Binational Association is to organize a biennual Encounter or Encuentro, at which communication students and educators from across the region present and discuss their work. This year the Encuentro will take place at the Autonomous University of Baja California, Mexicali, Oct. 26-27, 2007.

The Binational Association is also involved in organizing a variety of other regional communication conferences, educational exchanges, and media production projects. In June BINACOM organized a presentation of student's short films for the Corto Creativo 07 in Tijuana. Last year the third Binational Faculty Forum for Research and Artistic Production in Communication was held at the University of California Riverside. Other recent activities included hosting a Binational Film Festival and screening work at the International Cuban Film Festival. We are institutional members of ICA conference and organize a panel each year. In a variety of ways, we work to encourage cooperation among students and faculty in communication and media arts at colleges and universities in the border region.

The Binational Association today has ten member institutions: The Autonomous University of Baja California; Iberoamericana Noroeste University and University of the Californias, Tijuana; Grossmont College, Southwestern College; San Diego City College; San Diego State University; the University of California, San Diego; the University of San Diego; and the University of Sonora.
